Iqbal says in one of his poems;
Tanam Gulai Zi khayanban-e-Janat-e-Kashmir,

He proudly described himself as a Kashmiri and took pride in the fact that his ancestors belonged to Kashmir . His temptation and deep sentiments for Kashmir reflect his patriotic fervor and sympathy for his nation. His mind and heart was full of love and affection for Kashmir and Kashmiris
The flowing water streams of Lolab had brought about a change in the poet. He was stirred by the beauty of Lolab but at the same time he was dismayed over the pitiable and miserable conditions of the land which had got into the clutches of slavery.

The songs of passionate heart depends on the instrument
If the strings are lose then there is no use of that instrument

Be-Soz Hai Maikhana’ay Sufi Ki Mai’ay Naab
The Mullah’s sight has lost the light of penetrative discernment;
the mystic’s wine, pure and sparkling, no longer produces frenzy,

Baidar Hon Dil Jis Ki Faghan-E-Sahari Se
Iss Qoum Mein Muddat Se Woh Darvesh Hai Nayab
A dervish whose morning lamentation
may awaken the hearts of the people is no longer around,
